#BookClubFix

The seed for #BookClubFix was first planted during the April 2015 #HistoricalFix TwitterChat, but it wasn’t until the December 2015 #HistoricalFix chat that co-hosts Ellice, Leah and I decided to let the idea blossom into an actual thing.

What is #BookClubFix?
In a nutshell, it’s a friendly, lively, welcoming online book club for anyone who loves historical fiction. There are multiple ways to join the #BookClubFix fun (see below), but the centerpiece is a one-hour TwitterChat discussion of a historical novel. Most of our picks are books that have come up in our #HistoricalFix chat, which you can learn about here. We get so many great recommendations! Always the books are ones that we’re excited about reading.

Also, since we love all things historical, we sometimes watch and discuss historical movies or TV shows.

What is #BookClubFix reading and watching?
The Alice Network by Kate Quinn, which keeps coming up in our #HistoricalFix chats (maybe because I can’t stop talking about it).

When is the #BookClubFix discussion happening?
Tuesday, April 24, 2018
TwitterChat: 5:30 PM-6:30 PM PST/8:30 PM-9:30 PM EST
GoodReads Discussion: any time!

If you’d like to be kept in-the-know, you can sign up below to receive an invitation to our next chat.

What’s the best way to participate in #BookClubFix?
The live TwitterChat will be taking place over on Twitter As long as you have a Twitter handle and remember to add #BookClubFix to your tweets, you’re in! It’s a bit easier to track the conversation if you use a website like Tweetchat. Just log in using your Twitter account and search for #BookClubFix. The entire conversation should load, and it will automatically include #BookClubFix in all your tweets (because truly, remembering the hashtag is the hardest part. Well, and keeping up with all the tweets).

If you’re not on Twitter, come join our GoodReads group. It’s a great way to add to the discussion whenever it’s convenient, see what books we’re reading next, and add your picks to our “Members Recommend” bookshelf. We really hope you’ll be part of our community of historical fiction lovers.

Want to play catch up? Here are our past #BookClubFix picks!

August 2017
Our fifth pick was the much buzzed-about YA novel The Gentleman’s Guide To Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee. We thoroughly enjoyed the book, and Mackenzi Lee, who joined us for the chat was incredibly delightful!

March 2017
Readers seemed to either absolutely ADORE or else loathe our fourth pick, the classic 1948 novel I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith. It was a new read for me, and I had mixed feelings about it.

August 2016
We had a blast during our chat– especially since author Miranda Beverly-Whittemore joined us to discuss her latest novel JUNE about what happens when Hollywood comes to a small Ohio town.

May 2016
Jane Steele by Lyndsay Faye. We thoroughly enjoyed this Jane Eyre re-imagining.

We also watched Season 1 of Reign, which stars Megan Follows (who will always be Anne of Green Gables for me).

February 2016
The Violinist of Venice by Alyssa Palombo. Alyssa was our author guest in January 2016, has been a participant in #HistoricalFix chats since the beginning, and joined us for our inaugural #BookClubFix discussion. We were thrilled to read her debut novel!

We also watched the BBC/Masterpiece series Poldark which came up during our special #HistoricalFix historical movies/shows chat. We decided Winter was the perfect time to see what all the fuss was about (Aidan Turner, perhaps?). Based on the series by Winston Graham, some of us will also be reading the first novel during March 2016 while we wait for Season 2.
